Maria Bielikova is a full professor at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. She is head of the User Experience and Interaction Research Centre (www.uxi.sk) at the same university. In her research she is primarily interested in the Internet, the Web, user modelling, personalization and all related issues that continuously change our society. She works in the field of the Adaptive and Semantic Web nearly 20 years from its very beginning world over.
Prof. Bielikova currently acts as the Dean of Faculty of Informatics and Information Technologies, the first faculty devoted solely to IT in Slovakia. She is active in several professional bodies, in particular she is a senior member of IEEE, senior member of ACM (vicechair of the Slovakia Chapter), registered as Chartered Engineer in Engineering Council UK, member of TC2: Software: Theory and Practice in IFIP. For 13 years she served as a member of the executive board of the Slovak Society for Computer Science. She was a member of the Accreditation Commission of the Slovak Republic.
Her carrier, marking by widespreading Internet and the Web, involves also seeking and suport of young talented researchers. Students and young colleagues under her mentoring continuously achieve exceptional results. Among the most influential is the achievement in the IEEE CS Int. Design Competition (World Finals 3x in Washington, D.C.), Imagine Cup (World Finals 3x in Seoul, Paris and Cairo) and the ACM Student Research Competition (2nd place in Grand Finals in San Francisco).
